"When i thought it'd all been done, When i thought it'd all been said"

The line "When I thought it'd all been done, When I thought it'd all been said" I think refers to doctors not knowing what is wrong with the writer. Sometimes when doctors don't know they will just give a diagnoses because patients want answers even though the doctors are still unsure of what the problem is. The use of "when" makes me think that things are still unsettled with the writer, and this line is followed by "A little bit longer and i'll be fine" this leads me to believe that the writer has faith that everything will work out.

However, maybe the writer is writing this looking back on the situation and is remebering how bad things once were. Since he knows that he got through that difficult situation than he knows that when other difficult situations arise, such as love, family problems, money, he can rise above them too. Even though they may not be solved over night, it will only be a little bit longer until things will restore.

In reguards to the comment on my last post, you may be right. There audience tends to be younger girls, probably because they started out on the disney channel. So I do agree that they don't want to shock there fans to much and damage their squeaky clean image.

To further my argument that the song is about illness I think that the line"but you don't know what you got til its gone" refers to being healthy. I think that no one really knows how healthy they are until something really goes wrong. Sort of like when my roomies complain about never feeling good but then when they really get sick they realize that they were really complaining about nothing. However this line could be about life in general. Nobody really understands something until it is taken away, like love or even money.

I am a little bit confused by the line "When you smile or laugh you glow". This line alone is why I first interpreted this song to be written about love. "Glow" is often used to describe somebody who is happy because they are in love or sometimes pregnant, but the writer is a boy so that can be ruled out. However, he could be looking back on how supportive his family members have been throughout his illness. Illness can be hard on families so maybe he appreciates them staying upbeat throughout the process.

Another line that caught my attention was "so i'll wait til kingdom come". I think he is referring to heaven. With some research I found out that the writer is Christian, so heaven is the place most christian want to end up. But that line almost seems as if the writer would rather die and go to heaven then have this illness, like it is really that bad that he would rather die. The line just seems kind of morbid.

After further insight to the lyrics from A Little Bit Longer I feel as though the song could be about somebody that is sick and in the hospital. I may have read into the words a little bit too much. Taking it in a new direction the lines "got the news today, doctor said i had to stay" my just mean that the writer got news that he is sick and the doctors may not know what is wrong so he has to stay or that they have to do treatment so that he can get better.

The lines "waitin on a cure, none of them are sure" probably refers to some sort of illness that there is no cure for. Perhaps cancer or maybe diabetes, I heard the writer has type 1 diabetes. But perhaps when he was in the hospital the doctors didn't know exactly what was wrong with the writer so that could explain why no one is sure. Yet it could still refer to the fact that there is no real cure for the writers disease.

To further my argument that they song may be written about the writers diabetes the line"All the highs and lows are done" may be a reference to the sugar highs and lows that diabetics have to deal with. However it could refer to the emotional rollercoaster the writer has been on since discovering that he has an illness.

"got the news today, doctor said i had to stay"

I would like to focus on on the first two lines in A Little Bit Longer, the first being "got the news today". I feel as if he is making a reference to his girlfriend breaking up with him. News is usually something given to you by a third party, so maybe a friend had to tell him or maybe his girlfriend did. Also news is widespread so possibly other people knew about the breakup before him or maybe it is the talk amongst all of his friends. Lastly, connotations surrounding "news" is generally negative leading me to believe that he has lost something, namely a relationship with his current girlfriend.

The next line I would like to discuss is "doctor said I had to stay". I believe that the reference to "doctor" is that of a love doctor. I believe this because of the argument I stated above with "news" having a negative connotation, I also believe that doctors have a negative connotation. The doctor could be the person delivering the breakup news to him or possibly the doctor could be his conscience telling him to hang in there.

Analysis of entire song.

I think that the entire song, A Little Bit Longer, by the Jonas brothers is about love.
For example in the first four lines of the song it says,"got the news today, doctor said I have to stay, a little bit longer, and i'll be fine". I think the news is that his girlfriend broke up with him and that the doctor mentioned may be a love doctor that said he will be okay in time. The next few lines are ,"when i thought i'd all been done, when I thought it'd all been said, a little bit longer, and i'll be fine". I think that means the fighting and lies between him and his now ex-girlfriend is now finished and even though it hurts now it won't hurt forever. In the next few lines it says," but you don't know what you got till its gone", indicating that the boy thinks that the girl doesn't know what she is giving up. "And you don't know what its like to feel so low, everytime you smile or laugh you glow, you don't even know", maybe he means that he feels so sad and when he sees her smile or laugh it hurts because he still loves her and she doesn't know how much pain she has caused him. I think that the lines "all this time goes by, still no reason why" means that he doesn't understand why they aren't together even after all this time has passed, he is confused. Also the lines "waitin' on a cure but none of them are sure" refers back to the doctor love doctor reference.
